Founded in 2019, in Abu Dhabi, Fabrica is a interdisciplinary making platform, where we create objects with a narrative.

Fabrica is the youngest sister of Slash, a strategic design studio, also based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Even though the brand is quite young, it is the result of the always present makers spirit of Slash, a natural part of our life since founding in Portugal, back in the nineties, where the relationship with materials and stories was always very strong. Craftsmanship is in our blood.

Why.

We were designers first.
Designers with a makers spirit and the desire to bring to life what we imagined. To find the perfect materials, figure out how to technically make objects work, to fail, to try again, and to ultimately combine our eye for design with our love of making.

Fabrica is a journey to satisfy our curiosity, to experiment, to chase excellence and to find God in the details. The making is as important as the made, and we’ll always find our purpose in the process.

Fabrica is also a human experiment. People move us. People that gather unique information that no AI will ever be able to. People with passion, people with feelings, and above all people with stories to tell. We love to hear them, and find a way of perpetuating those stories in unique objects.

Materials.

Inspired by our home in the United Arab Emirates, we spend as much time hunting for the right materials as we do working with them.

It’s never about finding the easiest material, it’s about finding the right material for every object. The joy is in the fight, working with raw materials that demand a battle before they do what we want them to, but that ultimately bring something special to every object.

The Product.

We work on custom, commissioned objects, each one being a unique representation of a personal request from a client or collaborator.

Every finished product is a result of design, prototyping, material selection, sourcing, experimentation and crafted adventure to bring it all together.

We love the finished products, we’re proud of them, and we can’t wait to start working on the next.

In our view, an object is only as good as the story it tells and the journey we went on to discover that story.
It’s more than aesthetics, materials and technical drawings.
it’s the curiosity of discovery, asking questions, adventure and the chance to bring all of that to a made object.
